I, Amy Donovan, am originally from Geddes, SD.  I graduated from a class of 13 students (2 were foreign exchange).  My teachers truly played a dramatic role in my life, and this is why I became a teacher.

I also come from a large family.  There are 7 kids in my family,  and I am number 5.  If you come from a large family, you always know what number you are in it.  Just ask my husband, he is number 9 of 11.  My parents still live in Geddes and enjoy having many of their grandchildren around them.  They now have 16 grandchildren (8 boys; 8 girls) and another on the way.  I've learned a lot about people and social skills when having to interact with my large family.  We enjoy getting together (usually) and playing games.

I've lived in South Dakota my entire life with a brief summer visit to Missouri to live with my brother.  My family moved to Chamberlain from Buffalo, SD, in 2004.  My husband is a 6th grade science teacher in the district as well as the wrestling coach.  Our children are ages 12, 10, 5, and 2.  Now that we have four children, our lives are quite busy with the various activities, and the packing of the bags to attend those activities.

I have been a teacher for eight years previous to moving to Chamberlain.  My first year here, I received the opportunity to try new areas of teaching.  I was an 8th grade language arts teacher for the first semester, but second semester I was mostly working with preschool children and occasionally in the elementary classrooms.  I enjoyed all those children, but I have found that I am most comfortable working with high school students.  In my first full year here, I continued to work with high school students in the language arts area and really enjoyed myself.  Now in my eighth full year of teaching in Chamberlain, I keep myself busy with grading papers and coaching volleyball.  These activities keeps me busy, but I am enjoying them.

I am always available to answer any questions parents or students may have.  My school hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  or by appointment.
